Potter Painter Creator of things...
As a Canadian artist transplanted into the Pacific for 4 years, my influences range from Canada's bohemian West Coast to the villages of Tonga and Fiji. My art is founded in the power of symbols to express individual and cultural identity, while simultaneously acting as a global language.
I studied pottery with master potter Ping Kwong Wong and spent over ten years mentoring with Deborah Sloan, a Vancouver potter. While residing in Suva, I enjoyed exploring local pit firing techniques, learning traditional handicrafts and taking art classes at Uni.
While sculpting with clay has been my paramount love for the past 18 years, my creative journey has more recently led me to mix media and encaustic painting. While living in Fiji I also studied fashion design , currently I am exploring how to incorporate print making into fabric design and dyeing.
I feel like an ordinary girl that is a little outside of ordinary, eclectic. I am a painter sometimes, a print maker other times and a potter most of the time. I love clay, I love the feel of it, I love getting dirty and I absolutely love to carve away at it. I am fascinated by symbols from around the world, and things that are a bit macabre. I am obsessed with skulls, crows, alters, and cultural traditions. I have been creating and doing art for over 30 years.
